TransIT: The Standard System for Professional Vehicle Routing and Dispatching
Vehicle routing and dispatching, i.e. the combining of transport orders into routes, is a complex planning process. These days more and more companies carry out their planning tasks with the help of computers. This way they increase the efficiency of the planning process and the quality of the plans produced.
TransIT is a vehicle routing system used extensively in practice, which - besides the pure planning function - also provides for comprehensive web based services and telematics functions. In this way, for instance, routes can be directly transferred to a navigation system, and the vehicles' current GPS coordinates can be monitored in real time. And all that in the same user interface.
On this page please read:
Basic Functionalities:
- Automated real-time vehicle routing and dipatching,
including the possibility of manual entry and modification
- Half-automated vehicle routing and dispatching
- Manual vehicle routing and dispatching:
- Insert orders into routes and remove orders from routes
- Modify the sequence of orders in routes
- Alternative types of orders
- Node oriented with simultaneous pickup and delivery at a location
- Arc oriented with separate pickup and delivery locations
- Scheduled orders (matching recurring orders)
- Optimisation in consideration of:
- Multiple depots, multiple vehicle types
- Variable optimisation periods
- Vehicle utilisation times
- Categories and priorities of orders
- Customers' opening times
- Time windows for orders
- Regulations of driving times
- Optimisation of master routes based on historical data
- Elektronic Map
- Determination of location coordinates (geocoding),
automated or manual
- Calculations of time, distance and toll
- Routing and detailed route descriptions
- Telematics services
- Communication with service providers, customers and branches through web portals
- Communication with drivers through mobile devices
- Activation of navigation systems
(e.g. tomtom, maptrip)
- Vehicle location via GPS, with automated Track&Trace and forecasted arrival times
- Subsequent route evaluations
- Digital tachograph
- Management of master data and dynamic data
- User administration with flexible role definitions
- Interface (XML, csv, Excel) for import and export of master data and dynamic data (e.g. customers, orders, routes)
- Reports whose results can be used for further planning actions within the application and in external applications such as spreadsheets
- Consistency checks for routes and orders

Advantages offered by TransIT:
- Enhanced efficiency of dispatching at reduced cost of planning
- Cost reduction by improved quality of planning
- Reduced waiting times for customers
- Fast reaction to changes in the order situation
- Increased visibility by documentation of all actions and events
- Continuous electronic workflow support
- Creation of growth potential, as an increased order volume does not necessarily lead to an increase in personnel costs

Look and Feel:
The operation of the system is intuitive. Standards like selection via double-click, context menus and drag-and-drop are available. An example is the geocoding of a location: If you have the address of a location, its geocoordinates can be determined automatically by the system. This process can easily be initiated by dragging the name of location from the list of all locations into the map. Another example: If an existing route is displayed in the corresponding dialogue, you can insert an additional order by just dragging it from the list of orders into the route dialogue.

Technlogy:
- Integrated geographical information system
- Digital maps by infoware or map&guide
- Oracle database (no license fee for the Express version)
- Hosting solutions for GPS services
- Service oriented interfaces

Competence:
GTS Systems and
Consulting GmbH has long-standing experience in developing vehicle routing and dispatching software. We can draw on our profound knowledge of business processes and underlying restrictions of a highly practical relevance. We offer comprehensive expertise in the field of optimisation, and the optimisation systems we develop and implement are based on the latest scientific results in the field of Operations Research. For this purpose we cooperate, amongst others, with RWTH Aachen University and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, publish results of the latest research and are active members of the relevant associations.
