Under the title "UPS checks additional purchases in Europe business" (Financial Times Deutschland, 13.11.2006) the FTD quotes a member of the board of the world's greatest express and parcel delivery service: "Wir bringen unsere IT-Standards in die Transportbranche (We introduce our IT standards into the transport business)". The FTD report continues: "Wie im Paketdienst werden Lkw mit Handscannern und IT ausgestattet. (Similar to the parcel service lorries are equipped with hand-held scanners and IT.) 'Noch sind in der Branche Papier und Fax weit verbreitet (Paper and fax machines are still in common use)', Theodore Scherck, head of the logistics and consulting company Colography, said. But that would change quickly, possibly through the IT investments of UPS. Martin Raab of of Capgemini predicts that the investments may well be worthwile for the firms, an example being J. B. Hunt: The feeder has centralised the disposition with IT support - and increased the profit margin within three years from three to eleven percent by better deployment of the vehicles."
